Janusz Steinhoff

Janusz Steinhoff – an outstanding reformer of the Polish economy and politician; former anti-communist activist. Graduated from the Mining Department at the Silesian University of Technology (1974) where he defended his doctoral thesis in 1985. He specializes in solid commodities processing, mining, environment protection and mine restructuring.
In 1981-1989 he was an oppositionist active in the Solidarity-led underground. He was present at the Round Table that paved the way for a peaceful transition to democracy as Solidarity’s expert in mining and environment protection.
In 1976-1989 and 1994-1997 he worked at the Silesian University of Technology.
He was a Member of Parliament during three terms. Former chairman of the Mining Office in Katowice. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy 1997-2001. Currently actively involved in business structures.
